Wow. There is so much arty, musical goodness coming up in October and November that even I am having trouble believing it. Just look at that schedule over there to the left!
Another Local Music night on the horizon. Always good times. The fundraising event for the Braund House presented by the Dunnville Culture and Heritage Foundation on October 19...more good times. You can dress up in your favourite period costume. But if you don't want to dress up, come as you dress every day and represent the era we're living in.
John Mann, on October 22 will be amazing. Yes, he is the guy from Spirit of the West and yes, it's a Wednesday night but the election will be opver by then...so you'll need a mid-week night out I'm sure!
Then we gear up for the
two week River Arts Festival!!
www.riverartsfestival.ca "This year, for the first time, the artistic
energy of Dunnville and the surrounding area will have a common venue in a dynamic
new festival. Building on the success of the River Artists Show and Sale, the
artistic horizons will expand this year, including contributions from artists
working in music, poetry, video, and spoken word. Join us for two weeks in Dunnville
for the River Arts Festival; a creative shindig proudly presented by members
of the Dunnville community, and hosted throughout our downtown. We're excited
about our first annual gathering of the region's talented folk, and the artistic
possibilities of the future!"
Events will be hosted at Flyers as well as fabulous arts events at The Queens
Hotel, Queen Street Paint and Decor, The Youth Impact Centre, Dunnville Highschool.

Corin Raymond and Sean Cotton, who together are The Undesirables, are 2 of the
most amazing performers we've ever had at Flyers. I am so excited to have them

In performance, The Undesirables are a mesmerizing unit. They perform with total
commitment. Corin hand-delivers each lyric with entrancing conviction while
Sean digs into the guitar with mastery and taste and their voices blend with
sibling harmony.

It's Brent Titcomb!!
Canadian folksinger Brent Titcomb has been writing and recording music for 45
years, as a member of the folk-rock group Three’s A Crowd (which also
featured Bruce Cockburn) and as a solo artist. His songs have been recorded
by Glen Campbell, Andy Williams, The Osmonds and Anne Murray.
On Saturday June 21 he will perform at Flyers Cafe in Dunnville. There will
be special guests and it will be an incredible night of music.
That's a promise.
Question for Dunnville peeps: Does anyone know what all the fluff floating around
is? It's pretty and fluffy and baffling.

Wow. The Harrison Kennedy/Steve Strongman show was amazing. Amazing. If you were there, you know.
Okay, so what's next you
say? On the recommendation of the fine folks who helped to bring Rose Cousins
to Flyers in January...we've got The Undesirables on Sunday April
13th. Fresh from an Australian tour (fresh probably isn't the best word...that's
a long flight) The Undesirables are playing a sold out house
concert in Port Dover on the 12th. Then they're coming on out to Flyers
for an early evening show on Sunday April 13th. Whooohooo! 7:00pm people. Dinner
is at 6:00.
Email
me to reserve, tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the door. All proceeds
to the artists : )
I have to go. We were supposed to watch Levi this evening, but it looks as though he won't be coming and Rosie is sitting on the stairs, sighing huge sighs. She was looking forward to 'babysitting'.
So do some research about
this really talented and dynamic duo (heehee), talk among yourselves...and then
get your tickets for The Undesirables!!!

Boy Howdy! It's non-stop
music and fun and great food at Flyers! We've had a few meetings of staff and
management regarding menu changes and updates. We've had some imput from customers
as well. Feel free to drop us a line if you have any ideas. And look for a new
improved menu in the near future. Not sure what it's going to be yet, but there
is no doubt that it's going to be good!
And Music! In March alone we've got Rob Lamothe, Mary Simon, Harrison Kennedy
and Stever Strongman. Not to mention Local Music Night and Karaoke. In one month.
How is that even possible? Don't ask me. I mean, I'm a big part of the putting
together of all these events and I don't even quite know how it happens. I'm
just happy that it does.
Flyers is currently home to one of the handpainted benches being raffled/auctioned in support of Haldimand Artworks. Stop by and see it...because I personally painted it, and Lynne is pretty sure she is goind to win it. Good times!

Saturday February 23
we are hosting an event to raise funds for the Dunnville Culture and Heritage
Foundation, specifically to aid their efforts to preserve the "Braund House".
Many people know the "Braund House" on Main Street, as the "Old
Library" or as Tourist Infomration Center, but the history goes back to
1870 when it was built by a well known Dunnville inhabitant William N. Braund.
For more information about the Dunnville Culture and Heritage Foundation please
look up "Braund House" on Facebook. The fundraiser will include performances
by Quest for
the Past with Brad Faulkner and some of the regulars from Local Music
Night, John McKay, Lisa MIller and Rob Lamothe will do a few songs after dinner.
Then after we've all had dessert, we're going to kick off our shoes and get
funky with Snow
Heel Slim and the Boogie Infection. I'll let you know how much tickets
will be...as soon as we wrap up the final details for the evening.
Friday February 29

Year all in one room! Sing like no one is listening!!!

Looks like we'll be welcoming Harrison Kennedy back to Flyers later in March,

up as soon as I have them.

all staying safe and warm. More soon...

MONDAY JANUARY 21st!!! Rose Cousins at Flyers!
On Monday January 21
we have a very special artist named Rose Cousins coming to perform for
us. She is a wicked singer songwriter from Atlantic Canada. She's touring across
the country and even though it's a school night, we just had to get her to stop
by Flyers for a specila Monday night show. Rob has been playing her CD solid
since he got it a few weeks ago, he's in love. She draws on influences from
traditions of folk, bluegrass, pop and Appalachian music. She's got a pure,
sweet voice with just enough edge and her lyrics are great. She plays a mean
guitar as well. And from what I hear (and have seen on youtube.com she's very
funny as well).
http://cdbaby.com/cd/rosecousins2
Go and have a listen...and read through some of the reviews that people have
posted. I'm pretty sure you'll like what you hear and read.
Her website
is at:
www.rosecousins.com
Here's what some people are saying about Rose Cousins...
"Beautiful lyrics. Gorgeous acoustic guitar. Brilliant."
"Rose's music has the ability to reach deep down inside you and tug at
your soul."
"The vocals are delicious, and the words compelling."
"...a pure and unaffected voice, the listener can’t help but be drawn
in to her expertly crafted songs, emotionally intelligent lyrics and simple and
infectious melodies"
"I'm in love" (Rob Lamothe said that one)
We're going
to start the show earlier than usual, so everyone can get a full night of music
and still be in bed at a decent hour ; )
So doors will open for dinner at 6pm (reservations are a good idea). You can
call Flyers during the day on the 21st if you want to know what we're serving
before you decide 905-701-8527.
We'll start the music at 7:30 sharp with Newfoundland rover Don Brownrigg opening www.donbrownrigg.com I am listening to him while I type this email. He sounds great too! Wow, this is going to be a really really good night. You should definetly come!
Tickets are $10. Email contact@flyersindunnville.com to reserve or stop by Flyers to purchase.
We've got our regular third Friday of the Month Local Music Night and Food Bank Drive on Friday, January 18th. I feel I hardly have to say much about it as we've had such a great response to this night it's always a full house of talent and listening ears. The one we had just before Christmas was amazing. Loads of great music and people dressed up in their fancy Christmas attire. We had a very special feature performance by the Blue Rubies. They were fantabulous and we are working on booking them for a full evening in the near future.
One more thing I'd like
to mention. The Dunnville Culture and Heritage Foundation are working towards
preserving some of the beautiful older buildings and propereties we have in
Dunnville. The Braund House (the old library building on the river near the
bridge) is in danger of being demolished. There is a meeting on Monday January
14 at 7:30pm at the Lalor Estate Inn on Broad St. West. to discuss it's
future. County staff will be there and they want to see what kind of support
we have so we need to get bodies out to the meeting! This may be a last chance
effort for the Library Building!! So if you can come, please do!
There is a group on Facebook that you can join if you're interested in the Dunnville
Culture and Heritage Foundation www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=6283394905
if you want to keep up to date with what the group is doing. If you
can't attend, but would like to show your support for saving and using the building
you can send an email to Mary Jo. Say that you would have liked ot be at the
meeting and that you support the Dunnville Culture and Heritage Foundations
effort to save the Braund House (in your own words of course). You can send
emails to Mary Jo at rmlyell@sympatico.ca
Wow, long update. I'll leave it at that, other than to remind you to stop
by for breakfast soon. Flyers really does serve an excellent breakfast. We were
travelling a bit after Christmas and we missed our Flyers breakfasts. When we
got back, we of course went in for our favourites and Zander said halfway through
his "You know, this breakfast just kicks the ass of all other breakfasts."
Well said.

People are asking me why they should come and see Tiny Bill Cody and The Liquormen on Saturday November 24. Okay, I told people to ask me why...most people are just asking for reservations. But for those of you are asking why (like I told you to)...have I ever steered you wrong? I don't think so. And second (the steering thing was first) check out the promo poster. Then check out www.tinybillcody.com Then email me contact@flyersindunnville.com or call 905-701-8527 and get your tickets while they're hot.
You won't get a better night out for $10. Seriously. I am not kidding here.

Over there (left) you'll
see a little graphic from the Flyers
Myspace page, showing some of the dates we've got booked. Looks like
a loats of good night coming up at Flyers. You can click on the graphic to visit
the myspace page. I'm going to head there myself in a minute and put up song
samples for Lori Yates and Tiny Bill. Then I'll update the music page here with
some bio info and links. Then I need to get that door put back up, the drafts
will soon be a blowin' through this old house....how do you cut those neat little
places for the hinges? Is there a tool for that? Oh sorry, that's a different
to-do list.
I hope everyone has a nice Thanksgiving weekend. Speaking of being thankful,
big big thanks to everyone who sponsored us for the Sleep in the Park event
last weekend. This little community of ours raised 14,000 dollars. Isn't that
that incredible? There was a really nice article in the Chronicle
about the event this week. It sums up so much of how I felt about the night.
We are truly blessed to have so many enthusiastic, kind and caring people in
our community. Marv and Randy dove in like they did last year, constructing
a box city for most of the sleepers. Tracy and Bev and everyone from the Salvation
Army...so much energy and commitment...Cheryl from Flyers with her hot apple
cider and glowing wrist bands for the kids...the musicians, the people who came
and sat and lit candles, the young people singing around the fire, Ray Lyell
and his family and friends. I've got some great pictures, will get them up here
soon.
Okay back to the business of updated this website. I also have to update Mike
Daley's site (wasn't his show amazing last month??). Then I have to do a litle
update to my girl Shelley Marshall's website. And Rob's could use an update
as well. Then I need to get about promoting the River Artists show and Sale.
This update has turned into my personal to-do list and website promotion as
well. Multi-tasking as always.

So, yes well the summer
is flying beautifully by. We've been super busy at the Cafe, thanks to all our
excellent customers!! It's been nice to see so many 'cottagers' back again this
year. We've had lots of cyclists stopping by as they traverse Lake Erie. Sometimes
they've been on their bikes for 25 miles before they stop to fuel up at Flyers.
Admirable.
When you come by for breakfast or lunch, you will notice the lack of the 'Italian
Bakery' in the front of the Cafe. HOWEVER there's now more items available in
our growing Marketplace. Original paintings, handmade jewelery, purses and wallets
made from recycled materials (including koolaid jammer packaging!!) so stop
by and browse around. AND we've been working extra hard in our bakery, so we've
always got lots of sweet things in the Cafe (and I don't mean the staff).
Over there (left) you'll see a little graphic from the Flyers Myspace page www.myspace.com/flyersindunnville, showing some of the dates we've got booked. Looking good huh? I'll have more information soon about the Sleep In the Park event, so stay tuned. (NEWS FLASH: Tiny Bill Cody and the Liquormen will join us in Novemeber, but haven't picked a date yet. )

Sometimes
it's hard to come up with something to say to start off an update. Once I start,
it's easy to fill a few lines with news about what's going on at Flyers, because
there's always something going on. But more often than not, when I open
up the Dreamweaver to do an update, I end up sitting here, looking at the blankness
and feel the urge to procrastinate rising. I guess I have outwitted myslef this
time, since I seem to have just jumped right in by moaning about the difficulties
a webmaster sometimes faces. The update has begun.
So, yes! The MarketPlace at Flyers is looking very sweet these days. That's
the Attercliffe Apiaries stall on the left. See the gift baskets on the top
shelf? What a splendid idea for a gift huh? Shop Local Honey!
I have at long last updated the music page. In the next few weeks we've got
the Payday Poets
(March 31). They recorded a bunch of songs at Flyers last Saturday night, so
here's hoping they have a new CD for sale at their show. Rob
Lamothe will be kicking off his European Tour at Flyers on April 28.
His son Zander will play drums (he's going on tour with Rob too) and they'll
be other guests. Morgan
Davis returns to Dunnville on May 12, for all the blues fans. I don't
have a date yet, but Jonathan Brooks will be coming out soon. Check him out.
I saw him last year at the Home County Festival. He's such a great songwriter,
he had me rooted to the ground. Go to his myspace www.myspace.com/jonbrooks
and have a listen.
Hey if
you are a local person or business, and you have a website or a myspace, let
me know your link, your URL (technically your Uniform Resource Locator). There's
a whole bunch of links on our links page, but I think I should update it...right
after I finish this, and get the promo work for Jacob Moon www.jacobmoon.com
that I just finished to the mailbox. If you're on the newsletter list, you'll
already know about the unfortunate recycling bin incident that I have to remedy
before I head to Flyers for Local Music Night. Not on the newsletter list? Dying
to know about the recycling bin incident? Click on the banner at the top of
this page and get added to the list. Then you'll never miss another gripping
newsletter from me, on behalf of Flyers, wherein you'll learn all about what's
going on at Flyers, and all kinds of stuff about the super exciting things I
do every day. Well, maybe not SUPER exciting. Maybe mildly exciting? Well it's
better than getting spam.
See you at Flyers!

Thanks to everyone who got in touch about my furnace...thankfully now it's FIXED! I didn't realize that whining here would end up with so many people expressing their concern about our comfort here at the house : ) You people are too sweet, seriously!
I've been trying to get some pictures up on the 'pics' page. If you go there, you'll see there are some, not many yet, but some. A start. I'm working on some more today. That and catching up on some household chores, that have been on hold due to the furnace situation. That's really just an excuse, I could have done them. But having no heat just seemed like a good time to spend more time doing less housework.
LOTS of things going on at Flyers these days. We're finally getting the Marketplace properly set up in the front of the Cafe. We've had jam available from Richardson's Farm for a while, and it's been selling well (I have personally purchase more than a jar or two). And now we've also got Attercliffe Apiaries selling Honey, Gifts and More. Marin and Deanne Dykstra are registered beekeepers, is that great or what? In my opinion, honey is good, very good. There is also going to be an Italian Bakery Outlet, Antiques and more, so stop by soon and do a little local shopping. I'll be making a page on the site to highlight what's available in the Flyers Marketplace, so keep an eye out for that. And if you don't see said page in perhaps a week or two, please feel very free to nag me about it. I am nothing without a deadline. Although, that being said I don't want to put out the false idea that your nagging will bring about results. Just feel free to nag is all I'm saying. Anything in the email box that doesn't offer me a home-equity-loan-business-oportunity-in-Bangkok-get-a-bigger-personality is welcome.

Quick update...am rushing...is
cold in office now...
It was so nice that the weather warmed up a bit today. The furnace at the ol'
homestead here in Dunnville went on (dare I say it?) the fritz. Yes, the fritz.
As in no worky. And get this, the part is on BACKORDER. No one can even tell
us how long it will take to get the part. So here we are, middle of February
without a furnace. Kind of makes you go hmmmmmmm, doesn't it? So if any of you
reading this know how to get a furnace part for a Lennox furnace tout de suite,
shout out!
Lots of excellent shows to be announced very soonbut for now... mark Friday
March 16th on your calendar for the next LOCAL MUSIC NIGHT and FOOD BANK
DRIVE. And then on Saturday March 31 we are oh so very pleased to present,
straight from Lowbanks Ontario... THE PAYDAY POETS!! Opening the night
are very special guests Dollar Store Hacksaw (Rob, Zander and Josh Lamothe).
www.myspace.com/paydaypoets
www.myspace.com/roblamothe
There are also some very exciting changes happening at 144 Queen Street. If you stop by you'll notice a general air of renovations going on in the front of the Cafe. I'll let you know what's what next update. In the meantime though, we're open and we're serving up breakfast all day and baking fresh bread, making pies and brewing coffee...
Okay, I'm off for now...I wonder if I have another space heater around here somewhere...
Oh don't forget to sign
up for our newsletter...click up there on the banner with the airplane. That
way you'll get updates right in your very own inbox (a welcome additon to all
those mortgage approvals and stock tips that you no doubt get each day...only
you won't get a newsletter from Flyers everyday...more like once a week if you're
lucky!)

Our first Local Music Night of 2007 was another great night! That's Rob Lamothe on the left, helping Kimmie out with her guitar (we do run a friendly Music Night) and below that picture is one of Kyle Rowe. Kyle's come out to every one of our open mic's and he gets better each time (and he was pretty good to start with). It's great to see young and not so young, sharing the stage and listening to each other. The next Local Music Night is on February 16th and please try to remember to bring some donations for the food bank. Everyone has been so generous so far! Doors open at 6:30, sign up is at 7:00, music starts at 7:30 and the last spot is at 10:30. Each performer gets 2 songs, and we sometimes have a feature set...
The
next show we have is on Saturday, February 3...Ariana Gillis and David Gills.
Ariana Gillis is a 16 year old singer songwriter and I pretty much guarantee
you'll love her songs and her voice. Seriously. Love. Check her out www.myspace.com/arianagillis.
Her demo CD hasn't left the CD changer at Flyers since I brought it in except
for a few days when we lent it someone...On the 3rd Ariana will play with a
band which includes Zander Lamothe on drums. Zander's a happening drummer, he's
only 15 and he already has an endorsement deal with Los cabos drumsticks. Impressive!
David Gillis will play guitar...and I'll let you know who's playing bass...
Most of you will be familiar with David Gillis, as he's played our little ol' venue before. "A mélange of influences combining folk, jazz and North-Americana – lined with deep emotional lyrical muse, strangely accessible, delivered and performed with conviction. A marriage of civil rights and protest cut with bent humor and sung with a transparent voice." Wow. That's from his 'myspace' site www.myspace.com/davidgillis so head over there and have a listen. I know you'll love him too. You can also go to www.davidgillis.com to find out more about David. His "Wish Where You Are" CD has also taken up permanent residence in the Flyers CD player. The other thing about David, he has a wickedly funny sense of humour.
I know I ALWAYS say what a great show we have coming up, but I'll say it again...THIS is going to be a great show. So send me an email contact@flyersindunnville.com, stop by Flyers or call us 905-701-8527...and reserve your tickets as soon as you can $10 advance and $12 at the door.
ICE WINE
TRUFFLES. Ice Wine. Truffles. That's two things that only get better when they're
put together. Handmade and so delicious and they're available now at Flyers...NOW!
Does your sweetheart love sweets? Do you love chocolate? These sophisticated
little treats are a perfect gift for someone special (especially yourself!).
Packaged in heart shaped packages of 3, 5 or 10...hurry before I eat them all
: )
What else?
- New hours for Sundays...9am until 1pm for regular breakfast menu.
- Payday Poets
live on our stage in March
- Morgan Davis returns in May (details very soon)
I think that all amkes for a decent update eh? I'll try and get some pictures on the pictures page soon. I think I've said that before, but there you go I've said it again and maybe this time I'll do it. Please be careful out there on the roads, drive the speed limit and reduce your speed if it's icy or snowy. And eat your veggies.

If you read through our holidays hours you'll have noticed that we're switching
hours for Sundays...as of December 31st we'll be offering our regular breakfast
menu from 9am-1pm on Sundays.
We've got some great CDs available at Flyers, so if you're stuck for a last minute gift or stocking stuffer, stop by. There's the Design Hope CD for $13, an excellent deal with proceeds to Hamilton Out of the Cold Programs, serving homeless men, women and children in Hamilton. And we've got Rob Lamothe's new CD "Long Lazy Curve" for $15. This CD got a glowing review in last Saturday's Hamilton Spectator. Jeff Mahoney called it a 'must have CD' and said "I love this album". You can read the full review over at www.roblamothe.com . We also have copies of Jonathan Kingma's beautiful CD 'Northstar' for $20.
January 6 is Mike Daley and Mike Trebilcock!! www.mikedaley.net and www.miketrebilcock.net Something to look forward to early in the new year. I saw Mike Daley the other night at the Casbah, and he was smokin' good. I mean, I've known the guy for years and I work with him and I sort of forget how talented he is. He was on fire...and the night before he'd played Beatles music for 12 hours straight!! No kidding, you have to come out on the 6th and ask him about that. So yeah, for 10 bucks you're getting a great deal with the two Mike's...5 bucks a Mike, "celebrate the epiphany with 2 wise men" (That quote is from Mike Trebilcock's website, I can't really vouch for the wise part, although I do agree that there will be two of them and that they'll be smokin' good.)
Allright, I have to run over to Flyers now with some posters and drink some coffee, see what's up, see who's there and all. Talk to you soon and I hope you all have a really nice, sweet and peaceful holiday. Please remember to be generous with your time and money to anyone less fortunate than yourself. Reduce, re-use and recycle. Turn the lights off at night. Drink plenty of water. Practice loving kindness. Turn off the water while you brush.
![]() Frank Powers at our first regular Local Music Night and Food Bank Drive. The next one is on Dec. 15th so polish up your tuba : ) and we'll see you there. Details are on the 'music' page... |
So,
they put up that huge Christmas tree in the intersection again. There it sits,
confusing motorists, awaiting lights, listing slighty to the west. This is just
my third Christmas in Dunnville, so I don't expect to be used to the 'giant
tree in the intersection' yet. Does anyone get used to it? Do you ever just
go "meh, the tree's up"? I still can't believe it's there, in the
middle of the street. It seems so crazy and so much fun at the same time. I
feel like I want to just stand and stare at it, trying to decipher it's mysteries.
If you see me down there, doing that, move me along though would ya? I have
too much other stuff to do : )
Things like letting you all know there's just 8 days to go until David Celia
and his excellent band make the trek from Toronto to Dunnville to play music
for us!
Eye Magazine said "David Celia is one of Toronto's finest songwriters and
guitarists" and in a review of his latest CD "This Isn't Here"
they said "It's really is gorgeous. Split evenly between the country-ish
acoustic glide of Rubber Soul and the electric power-pop template of Revolver,
it's like some missing Beatles album made in between. Like that band, Celia
crafts supremely sophisticated chord changes, guitar licks and three-part harmonies
that still sound so natural, you don't even notice. It's sheer musical alchemy..."
www.davidcelia.com or www.myspace.com/davidcelia
Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the door. I feel like I've said all this
before, but in case you haven't been paying attention you can get tickets at
Flyers (144 Queen Street in Dunnville) or send me an email and we can make other
arrangements.
David is bringing a full band with him, featuring Joan Besen from Prairie Oyster,
Mike Holt, Sam Cino and Chris Banks. So you know, we'll be rockin' a little
; )
AND Ariana Gillis is going to open the night with a few of her beautiful songs.
I gave you a bad link to her site in the last newsletter...the right one is
www.myspace.com/arianagillis
. The songs she has on there were recorded right here in our house, in the office
next to mine, which is Rob's studio. That's cool eh? And the drums on the songs
were played by another young talented musician Zander Lamothe www.myspace.com/zanderlamothe
Need a Christmas gift for a music lover?? We have HOPE CDs for sale at the Cafe!
Check it out at www.myspace.com/hopecd
or www.designhope.ca.
This CD is really, really, good. And as mentioned, the proceeds go to feed homeless
children, women and men in Hamilton. You get a great CD and someone who needs
it, gets a hot meal. In fact, for each CD sold 3 people get a hot meal. If you
can't get into Flyers to pick up a copy, there's list of stores in Hamilton
where you can buy it on the websites. If you want, I could even do a mailorder
for you, send me an email and we can work that out.

OKAY! Here we go then...it's our second Local Music Night and Food Bank Drive coming up on Novemeber 17th! We've decided to do one on the 3rd Friday of every month, so polish up the vocal chords and put on some new strings or what have you on that dusty instrument you begged Santa to bring you. There's no admission charge but please bring as big an armload full of Food Bank donations as you can afford and carry. Last time the donations were overwhelming and left everyone feeling very community minded and warm and fuzzy. Who wouldn't trade that for a few cans of veg and 4 boxes of cereal?
The details for Local Music Night are as follows: Flyers is open for dinner from 5:00pm. Sign up begins at 7:00pm, music starts at 8:00pm Feature performer: Marv Ens 9:15 - 9:40. Each performer (except the feature) will perform 2 songs (maximum, you could just do one if you're just testing the waters). The last performer goes on at about 10:30, so coming in a bit early and signing up is probably a good plan. Plus you can settle your nerves by partaking of the Buffet Style Dinner or some coffee and pie beforehand.
Another exciting event we'll be hosting at Flyers Bakery and Cafe Inc. is the River Artists Show and Sale!! The opening night is November 18th and the artist will have their work on display and for sale until November 25th. There are more than 20 local and area artists so far, so the selection is sure to be great!
I saw Christmas lights
out there in our beautiful little town tonight, on our way over to rent a movie.
They were twinkly and lovely. It's nice that people put up lights just when
it starts to get dark at 5 o'clock. Thanks for the lights people of Dunnville!
I know it's a bit early, but my recommendation for a 'get in the spirit' movie
pic is "White Christmas" with Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye. Oh, and
there's a Simpson's Christmas DVD out too, with 4 excellent episodes. However
awesome the Simpson's one is, it doesn't come close to the scene in "White
Christmas" when it starts to snow, if you're looking for good some good
old fashioned Christmastime schmoopyness.

The First Annual Sleep in the Park was a huge success! On September 29th the Dunnville Salvation Army Homelessness Programs hosted an fundraising/awareness raising event in Central Park in the very middle of Dunnville. It was a huge success, as almost $13,000 was raised and many people learned about the challenges that homeless people, even in our own community face.. Some of us 'Flyers' people were there. Rob, Josh and Zander (Lamothe) played some music, Cheryl brought over a huge amount of hot apple cider, which was so good. Our friends Randy Rigby and Marv Ens slept in cardboard boxes to raise money. Rosie stayed until midnight even though she was cold and her feet were wet. I took a ton of pictures, in the dark. It was cold and clear and there was a beautiful moon. If you click on the small picture below, a new window will open with loads of thumbnail pics, and then click on the first one and off you go. I did mention I took a ton of pictures.

So we've got the most excellent
Jacob Moon playing
in the Cafe on Saturday, October 21. If you've seen him before, I don't have
to tell you what an amazing performer he is. If you've never heard him, go to
www.jacobmoon.com and listen. We've got Dunnville's own Tim Tenbrinke opening
for him, show starts at 8:30. Jacob Moon
Then on Friday, November 3 we are super excited to welcome Rick
Fines and Suzie Vinnick for a double CD release party! Please check
the 'music' page for more details about tickets and prices and links to the
performers websites : )
Flyers has a 'myspace' so if you're so inclined head over to www.myspace.com/flyersindunnville
and add us as a friend. Yeah, 'myspace' is kind of weird but what the heck eh?
All the kids are doing it, and to be honest the clincher was seeing that The
Payday Poets had a 'myspace'.
September 25, 2006
Wow, that was a great night! A huge, HUGE thank you to everyone who came out to our Local Music Night on Sept. 22. To all the musicians: Randy Rigby, Marv Ens, John McKay and Mr. Hammond (John's friend, sorry I forget your first name at the moment), Tim Tenbrinke, Chelsea Blue, Rob Lamothe (who was also host/sound guy), Zander Lamothe (who helped move chairs and clean up afterwards), Shawn Hanes, Stacie Hancock, Amanda Phillips and Lisa (and her beautiful baby : )...THANK YOU!!
To the people who showed up with not just a can or two, but bags and boxes full of donations...THANK YOU!! I imagined we'd get a good turn out and that people would bring a nice amount of stuff, but by the end of the night the amount of donations was really amazing. Makes a girl feel all warm and fuzzy : )
So we'll see everyone in Central Park on Friday night for the Sleep In The Park event right?
Rose and Zander Lamothe

We're having a Local
Music Night this Friday (September 22)!! Music will start at 8 pm and go
until about 10:30 pm. We've got some great local talent performing:
Randy Rigby, Marv Ens, John McKay and Friends, Rob Lamothe, Tim Tenbrinke, Shawn
Hanes, Chelsea Blue and more! If you're interested in playing a couple of songs
email me right away at contact@flyersindunnville.com and we'll see if we can
find a space for your talent : ) Line ups almost full though so don't delay
: ) And Flyers is open for dinner every Friday night from 5pm so come early
to eat, bring your family and friends too!
There is no charge for admission, but we are asking that everyone brings as
many donations for the food bank as they can carry. Loads and loads, bring loads.
The shelves at the food bank are bare. Not sure what to bring? Non-perishables
like Kraft Dinner...Peanut Butter (it's on sale this week at Food Basics), canned
fruits and vegetables, pasta and sauce, rice, beans...cereal, oatmeal, powdered
milk...diapers, baby food...
You might be surprised at how many people in our area use the food bank. And you might be further surprised by who. If you have some time, stop by the Salvation Army offices above the Thrift Store on Chestnut and have a look, talk to some people who work there. It's an eye opener.
Speaking of eye openers, hope to see one and all in the park next weekend for the Sleep In The Park event!! Open your eyes to the problem of homelessness even in our little town...and try and close your eyes and sleep all night in the park. You can pick up sponsor sheets at the Salvation Army Thrift store on Chestnut Street.
August 30, 2006
Nice summer we've been having eh? The last few months have been so sweet. There's only been maybe two days when there wasn't a breeze rustling the leaves in the huge tree in my front yard. We only succumbed to the evils of our central air conditioner for two days all summer, and just now I was enjoying looking at the utility bill. We did however, put on two very HOT shows at Flyers over the summer months. Thanks to Brent Titcomb, Liam Titcomb, Rob Lamothe, Zander Lamothe, Melissa McClelland and Luke Doucet who all played from their hearts. And very special thanks to all of YOU who came out and listened. I know that you all know how incredible it is to have a place like Flyers in this little town. And on that note...
![]() ![]() |
We've
got Harrison Kennedy
and Fruteland Jackson
for a special DOUBLE BILL on Friday September 8th!
Tickets for this concert at Flyers will be $15.00 in advance or $18.00
at the door and seating will as always be limited. Check the music page for
details about getting your tickets...
July 19, 2006

Hope everyone is
enjoying the hot weather!
Good news...we'll be open every Friday until 8:00 pm as of July 21!!! Some of
the other merchants on Queen Street will also be open late on Fridays so you
can do a little shopping while you're in town too. Pretty exciting!
Speaking of exciting, we have a great night of music coming up in August...Melissa
McClelland will be performing! Melissa is a friend from back in the 'Readers
Cafe' days. She's been doing very well, touring the country and making absolutely
brilliant records. We're very excited to have her back. Head on over to the
music page and get your tickets via Paypal, or drop by Flyers Bakery and Cafe
Inc. for cake and coffee and get your tickets at the same time. If neither of
those are convenient for you, send an email to contact@flyersindunnville.com
and we'll figure something out.
Everyone at Flyers
would like to send a big thank you out to Rob Lamothe, Brent Titcomb, Liam Titcomb
and Chelsea Blue...their performance on July 15th was really wonderful.
And a huge round of applause to the fabulous audience!!! Leopold Stokowski a
British born American Conductor known for his influence as a popularizer of
classical music said “A painter paints his pictures on canvas. But
musicians paint their pictures on silence. We provide the music, and you provide
the silence.” Our audiences are rather reknown for their respectful
quiet during performances, and the folks in attendance on Saturday night were
no exception. What a great vibe. I know the musicians had a great night and
felt the love, so thank you to one and all!!
Okay so see you on August 18th for Melissa McClelland and hopefully sooner than
that too for pie!
June 22, 2006
Great news for music lovers
in and around the Dunnville area! Flyers will be bringing you some really top
notch music throughout the summer. We're kicking things off with some of our
favorite people...

Check the MUSIC page for details about this show and others!
June 3,

What a weekend!
Friday was one of our busiest days ever and didn't one of the dishwashers give
up the ghost in the middle of the lunch rush? It did indeed. Someone came in
and fixed the dish washer and the hummous platter lunch special was truly fabulous
so you know, all's well that end's well. And Friday sure ended well, as the
picture above will attest to. That's the 'slightly differentt management' there,
left to right Dennis, Paul, Lynne and Cheryl. Mark's there at the mic, and while
he's no longer a partner, he's still part of the happenin' Flyers music scene,
bringing us Jack DeKeyser and his band, who put on a stellar show. The place
was packed with beautiful people, including lots of old friends and a few new
ones. There was clapping and dancing and much pie was enjoyed. Thanks to all
who came out to celebrate with us at our official grand opening party.
Have you signed up for the newsletter yet? Just wondering because we'll be announcing
some great shows soon. Harrison Kennedy will be back in the fall. We're figuring
out dates with Melissa McClelland, David Celia, Brent and Liam Titcomb, Rob
Lamothe (yes the very same one we named the 'Rob' omelette after). When you
signup for the newsletter feel free to make a suggestion about who you'd like
to see at Flyers. James Taylor for example, wouldn't it be great to see him
at Flyers? Hey, it never hurts to dream and you just never know, it might happen.
See you at Flyers tomorrow for brunch : )
May 28,
2006
Here at Flyers Bakery and Cafe we're having a Brunch Buffet on Sundays!
It's a great deal for $8.95/person and $ 5.95 for kids under 10 (and we don't
charge for the really little ones, they can just eat off your plate like they
always do right?). We're offering all your usual favorites, scrambled eggs,
bacon and sausage, homefries, coffee, tea, juice. There's belgian waffles with
fruit toppings and sweet little pastry treats fresh from the oven too. Cheryl
always comes up with something extra special (she always does though doesn't
she?) like the cheese blintz dish she did today. So good! . No doubt we'll be
seeing you next Sunday.
Tickets are selling briskly for Jack DeKeyzer and his band live at Flyers on
June 2nd so if you're planning on coming, you might want to get your tickets
sooner rather than later (details are on the music page). The
head cookin' people at Flyers have decided on a big ol' barbeque for supper
on the 2nd, so come early if you want to eat, dinner starts at 6:30 and will
go until about 8:00 when we'll shut down the grills and get ready to dance.
You can tell it's close to summertime here in Dunnville. Aside from the obvious
like more sunshine and warmer weather, the Lamothe kids all jumped in the lake
last weekend marking the official start of summer for them. It was cold and
they all turned a nice shade of pink but thought it was an excellent way to
get in the summery groove. We're quite sure they weren't the only nutty kids
to observe their own seasonal rituals on the long weekend in May. We heard tales
of excellent camping despite the cool temperatures, bonfires, losing shoes in
the mud and girls jumping into ponds. Speaking of ponds, the one at Lynne and
Dennis' is in full early summer swing, including a ramp for the tadpoles to
escape the hungry frogs. You're a good guy Dennis.
May 17, 2006
Well hello
there!
Welcome to Flyers Bakery and Cafe Inc. Online. We're just getting things sorted
our here in the virtual world. But rest assured, the Bakery and Cafe are in
full swing at 144 Queen Street in Dunnville. Please stop by for breakfast or
lunch, or for coffee and a treat (oh and there's treats a plenty too). Whole
wheat croissants or pineapples squares, boston cream pie or gluten free corn
muffins, fresh bread and homemade soup, chocolate peanut butter cheesecake...but
I digress (and I'm hungry as well...).
There's news about
Flyers first LIVE ENTERTAINMENT night! On June 2nd our friend
Jack DeKeyzer
and his band will help us celebrate the official grand opening. All the details
can be had by clicking on the 'music' link.
Okay I best tend
to some of the other pages here on the old dot com. Times a wastin' and I've
got to get to Flyers before they close at 3 or else I'll have to wait until
tomorrow for a croissant...or piece of pie...oh my.
If you want to get on our newsletter list send an email to contact@flyersindunnville.com
and we'll make sure you know what's happening. At least what's happening at
Flyers in Dunnville anyway. All the rest, you'll have to find out for yourself...
Hey if all the great food and homemade treats aren't enough to tempt you to check us out, you should come to see the beautiful mural painted by Jack Corbett (aka Flyers Dad)
